Your braking system is fairly complex, but the fluid that fills its hoses has the simple task of amplifying the pressure that comes from you stepping on the brake. Without that fluid, you would be unable to bring your vehicle to a stop.

The hydraulic system is sealed tight, but air and moisture can still seep in, contaminating the brake fluid and reducing its effectiveness. It’s good to change your brake fluid every three years or so, topping it up in between when necessary. Excess air can be removed through a process known as bleeding the brakes.

You’ll know there’s a problem with the system if you see a pool of yellowish, oily fluid underneath your car or if you press the brakes and the pedal sinks to the floor without slowing your car. Brake fluid problems are a safety hazard and need to be addressed immediately by our service center here at White's Auto Mall Nissan in Hopkinsville, KY.
